Service Oriented Architecture Consulting

Responding to an organisation’s business and IT needs is a constant challenge in today’s environment where you need to do more with less and still achieve agility and flexibility. Some organisations have turned to Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) as part of the solution, but how do you know if your organisation is ready? Implementing Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) means achieving greater business agility, empowering business users, increasing the value of IT and reducing the cost of integration. We help you get there.

Enterprise Architects offer 2 light SOA consulting packages:

SOA Readiness Assessment

Assesses the readiness of the client to proceed with a project/programme/initiative based on SOA. The readiness assessment addresses the following questions:

  • Is the organisation ready?
  • Are the relevant processes and templates in place?
  • Have all of the required technology and design decisions been made?
  • Are the skills in place?
  • What issues and constraints can be avoided?
  • What are the risks involved?
  • What can be done to improve the chance of success?

Objective

To review the initiative’s readiness in terms of:

  • Organisation
  • Architecture, methods and approach
  • Capability
  • Risks, issues and constraints

Deliverables

  • Readiness assessment report
  • Readiness assessment checklist
  • Management summary

Benefit

Independent impact assessment of the organisation’s ability to deliver the initiative with recommendations to de-risk/improve the probability of success

Estimated Effort

10 – 30 days (dependent on scope)

SOA Roadmap

Will look to define a sequential milestone plan of activities and risks and considerations to achieving the desired state. Gap analysis between the current state and the desired state will be established. The SOA Roadmap looks to address the questions of:

How do we incrementally achieve our SOA vision?
Does the Service Oriented Architecture method deliver against the business vision and strategy?
Does my technical architecture align and enable the business, functional and information architecture?
Has the technology been used appropriately to fit the architecture?
Will my current implementation provide interoperability and compatibility for future programmes?
Does the solution and service delivery method support or constrain the delivery of technology solutions?
What should be done next based on where you are?
What issues and constraints can be avoided?

Objective

  • To define the “TO BE” state and review the “CURRENT STATE”
  • To create the transition plan
  • To agree the budget and resource requirements for the transition application and vendor
  • To define the roadmap to achieve the enterprise vision

Deliverables

  • Prioritised and sequenced plan with associated descriptions
  • Defined management objectives and aligned deliverables
  • Resource estimates and ‘execution’ capability profile

Benefit

Independent view of current position, risks, constraints and recommendations for achieving the vision of the SOA roadmap.

Estimated Effort

10 – 30 days (dependent on scope)
